Working
with a travel agent may seem like an unneeded expense, but they can
greatly help make your vacation better. Cruise lines are perhaps the
biggest reason why knowledgeable and well-trained travel agents are
necessary. Unlike in hotels, the accommodations, food, and
entertainment offered by cruise lines can vary from ship to ship.
Reliable
travel agents are frequent travelers themselves, and familiarization
with sea travel is just one part of cruise travel agent jobs.
However, landing the best jobs in this industry isn’t dependent on
experience, luck, and charm only. Without the right skills and
training, agents will be hard-pressed to meet any traveler’s
expectations. It is the job of host agencies to provide fledgling
travel agents with the education and training they need.
2014
is turning out to be a very busy year for cruise travel agents, as
more advanced luxury cruise ships are setting sail this year.
Negotiating reservations for excellent liners will undoubtedly be a
big test of skill and acumen for cruise travel agents.
Sales
and marketing, therefore, is expected to be integral to travel agent
training programs. Other skills like foreign languages, interpersonal
communication, and health risk assessment are still essential, but
they won’t hold as much weight as the ability to negotiate a spot
in today’s finest cruise ships. Considering that people have high
expectations for sea travel as well, that’s all the more reason for
travel agents to step up their game.
